Marie Biscuits and Icing

A messy but fun way for kids to get their creativity flowing!

You will need:
  • marie biscuits
  • pre-made icing, caramel and/or condense milk
  • Any sorts of delicious treats and sweets (e.g. jelly tots, astros, sprinkles, marshmallows etc)
  • bowls for the icing and for the treats
  • plastic knives for the children to spread their own icing
  • paper plates
  • serviettes
Set everything out for the children and give them the freedom to decide what they would like to do with their biscuit. You can help them along the way and keep filling up the bowls with more assortments.

You can help them make anything from pretty (yet tasty) patterns on their biscuit, smors (which involve a marshmallow wedged inbetween two biscuits like a sandwich) which you can even add a touch of chocolate sauce to, shapes, or even different faces!

Take photos, have fun and savour...

FLIP-FLOP FRIDAY

THIS FRIDAY!
23 September 2011

On this day, the whole of the East Coast will be taking part in the ceremonious, funsunzi, FLIP-FLOP FRIDAY.
Whether you are at work, school, or even at home, wear your flip-flops.
It's an opportunity to forget about the petty rules of society and have a little freedom. Let loose and just have fun in the sun.

SPRING!

SPRING is here and so this is the perfect time to teach the pre-schoolers all about the season.

This week's activity:

A Spring tree! (to stick up on the classroom wall)

You will need:
  • 2x pieces A3 green coloured cardboard paper
  • 3x pieces A4 brown/black couloured cardboard paper
  • Pictures of  spring animals/flowers about the size of your palm for each child to stick on the tree
  • Glue, scissors, prestik
Directions:
  1. Stick the 2 pieces of green A3 paper together and cut the newly formed page out into the shape of a puffy cloud (the leafy part of the tree).

2. Next,  put glue onto the top rim of each A4 page and stick them together so that they end up creating a long rectangle (the trunk).
3. Finally, add a touch of glue to the top part of the trunk and stick the leafy part of the tree on top of the top part of the trunk, making a tree.
  • If you want, you can cut on the very edge of either side of the trunk to make the tree look more barky and less symmetrical.
  • You can also cut out an oval shape in a darker brown or black and stick it on the trunk to make a hollow in the tree if the tree is looking a bit bare.

This end product will be stuck up on the classroom wall. The children can now colour in palm-sized pictures of butterflies, birds, nests, bees, ladybirds and flowers and once they are finished their picture, you can help them to stick it with prestik onto the tree, creating a bright colourful SPRING TREE in the classroom for the children to enjoy.
